Teacher of the Year
Pete Mercier has been teaching for ten years, beginning in the Fall of 2006, and has spent all ten years of his teaching career at Menchville High School.
During his ten years, he has taught all levels of guitar performance, piano performance, and music theory. In the 2009-10 school year, his fourth year teaching, he was voted Menchville High School Teacher of the Year. Following that year, he was appointed the school's Activities Director, a position he continues to hold. He has overseen the creation and implementation of school-wide service learning while continuing to teach various music courses.
In 2014, he started Menchville's piano program. During the 2015-16 school year, Pete served as Newport News Lead Teacher of Secondary Music, assisting with district events, meetings, and other assigned tasks pertaining to middle and high school music programs in the city. He has earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Christopher Newport University, a Master of Arts in Teaching Degree from CNU, and an Education Specialist Degree in Administration and Leadership from Old Dominion University.
