Science Fair Categories
ANIMAL SCIENCES
Animal science is described as "studying the biology of animals that are under the control of mankind." Historically, the animals studied were farm animals, but courses available now look at a far broader area to include companion animals, for example dogs, cats, horses and captive animals.
BEHAVIORAL & SOCIAL SCIENCES
The social sciences are the fields of academic scholarship that explore aspects of human society. The term behavioral sciences encompasses all the disciplines that explore the activities of and interactions among organisms in the natural world. Examples of behavioral sciences include psychology, cognitive science, and anthropology.
CELLULAR & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY
Cellular biology is an academic discipline that studies cells – their physiological properties, structure, interactions, life cycle, division and death. Molecular biology is the study of biochemistry at a molecular level.
CHEMISTRY
Chemistry is the physical science of matter and the changes it undergoes. Chemistry is primarily concerned with the composition, behavior, structure, and properties of matter.
ENGINEERING: ELECTRICAL & MECHANICAL
Electrical engineering is the design and study of various electrical and electronic systems. Mechanical engineering is the design of physical or mechanical systems.
ENGINEERING: MATERIALS & BIOENGINEERING
Materials engineering is an interdisciplinary field involving the properties of matter and its applications to various areas of science and engineering. Bioengineering is the application of engineering principles to address challenges in the life sciences.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
Environmental management is the management of impact and interaction by the modern human societies upon the environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
Environmental science is an interdisciplinary academic field that integrates physical and biological sciences to the study of the environment and the solution of environmental problems.
MEDICINE & HEALTH SCIENCES
Medical and health sciences deal with the maintenance of health and the prevention and treatment of disease.
PHYSICS & ASTRONOMY
Physics is a natural science that involves the study of matter and its motion through spacetime, as well as all related concepts, including energy and force. Astronomy is the natural science that deals with the study of celestial objects and phenomena that originate outside the Earth's atmosphere.
PLANT SCIENCES
Plant science is a branch of biology that involves the scientific study of plant life.
